Building Catholic Futures
Building Catholic Futures is an organization which equips Catholic institutions to evangelize and catechize gay people of all ages.
From their site - “[We provide] resources for those who care about young people.
“Building Catholic Futures helps the next generation trust that the joy of the Gospel and the witness of the Church are for everyone. Young people leave the Church when they believe it has no place for them or their loved ones, so parents, educators, and priests have a duty to address young people’s questions. The curriculum was created in close consultation with parents and with teachers in Catholic schools who want better ways to start conversations about the intersection between sexuality and young people’s faith and futures.”
These images illustrate BCF’s five building blocks of
- start the conversation
- nourish the witness
- tell good stories
- showcase unnoticed vocations
- expect the unexpected
The posters will be available for youth group bulletin boards, school classrooms, and personal use. The illustrations will also be found in Building Catholic Futures’ curriculum books.
To create these illustrations, I used the Procreate program and combined image textures with line work and brush details to create a collage-type effect.
01
illustrations - FRiendship
This set of illustrations features famous pairs of saints and Biblical characters who were friends: Sts. Sergius and Bacchus, Ruth and Naomi, St. Oscar Romero and Rutilio Grande, St. Frances of Rome and Vanozza, Sts. Clare and Francis of Assisi, and David and Jonathan. The goal of this poster was to give students examples of different types of faithful friendships and show what a good friendship looks like.

02
illustrations - vocations
In this set, the vocations of marriage and vowed religious life are joined by many other options that are less-talked about. Giving students reminders that there are other life paths they can choose to take that are just as spiritual and life-giving is part of BCF's most important goal.

03
illustrations - St. Philip
The idea behind portraying the major events of the life of St. Philip the Apostle (or all the multiple St. Philips that may be described in the Bible) was to show the different aspects of a life lived for Christ.

Posters
I continued the collage effect in these posters by adding background texture and color blocks, effectively combining BCF and the Modern Saints' branding.
